Counselling can help when you have problems or are in distress - it provides the opportunity for you to talk to someone who is not closely involved in your situation and your counsellor will not advise you or tell you what you should do. Counselling can help to explore and reflect on your situation and give you the opportunity to identify your own solution and choices. Counselling can enable people to recognise and clarify their own feelings and find more effective ways of coping. HOW DO I GET STARTED? Initially you will meet with one of our intake counsellors for an assessment session. This session provides you with the opportunity to discuss what has prompted you to seek counselling and allows us to assess whether we feel we are the most appropraite agency to meet your needs. We will also discuss your availabiltiy and agree the fee structure for your sessions. Following this initial assessment session you will be placed upon the waiting list until one of our counsellors can provide a session to meet with your requirements - this wait varies according to how flexible you are able to make yourself available. As soon as a session becomes available, you will be contacted by telephone or letter. COUNSELLING SESSIONS When you start counselling you are making an ongoing commitment to your session. Sessions take place with your assigned counsellor at the same day and time each week and last for 50 minutes. Sessions will begin and end on time, even if you are late. All sessions are confidential and this confidentiality would only be broken if we were seriously concerned for your own or someone elses saftey or were obliged to by law. Your appointment is ring-fenced for you personally as an ongoing commitment and as such you will be required to pay for any missed sessions. |
